Public Safety
When you have been recognized as America’s Safest City for 12
years straight, you have no place to go but down. That’s why investing in
public safety must remain our highest priority. With nearly $80 million (out of
a nearly $200 million budget) directed to public safety this year, we still
fall below the 1:1000 ratio of officers to residents. That needs to change.
With 66 square miles to patrol, a population that balloons daily
with commuters coming to our city to work and special resources deployed to
address issues at our schools, mental health issues in our community and other
growing problems, having adequate personnel and state of the art equipment is
critical. We must maintain our reputation for high quality community policing
and ensure that everyone who lives, works and plays in Irvine feels safe.
